This breed of Shetland is quite different from the original. Mostly used in showing, jumping, and harnessing they are slightly larger and more sleek.

Asiatic Wild Horse
This never domesticated breed is very timid, aggressive, powerful, and has great stamina and endurance. They are suspicious of humans and only found in the wild and at zoo's.
Characteristics include hard feet, weak hind legs, short back, and short head. They always have a sandy colored coat with a black stripe on their back.
This breed was carried around the world by ships and slowly spread. They can be used for saddle and feral. In the wild the Assateague eats wild herbs.
Characteristics include heavy shoulders, lumpy withers, and some feathering. They can stand up to 12 hands and be any color.
The Austrailian Pony is a mix of many different breeds and therefore carries different characteristics such as a short strong backs, short canyon's and neat hooves.
They are very intelligent, calm, alert, friendly. Height can reach14 hands tall. This Pony has strength and stamina as well as a desire to work and please. They are used as saddle and riding ponies. Colors can be grey and brown.
The Barb still runs wild in the desert of Africa. It is the oldest breed of horse still living. They are endagered, hard to fina as a pure and some what like an Arabian.
Charactarisitcs include slim legs, strong, hardy, short back, low tail, and powerful front end.
The Barb is a sport horse and used in harnessing. They can fun long distances, has a fast sprint, and a fiery temper. Height can reach 14-15 hands tall.
The Bardigian is a strong, hard, quick moving, pony with sure footing. They can be used for mountain work, light draft, and packing.
Physically this breed has correct withers, a short compact body, pony head, short pricked ears, and upright shoulders. Standing between 12-13 hands they can also be all solid colors.
The short Batak is a good riding pony. Other uses include harnessing, agility, and working. They are very kind and docile.
Characteristics include fine head, medium length rein, high rump, straight profile, slender legs, and can be all solid colors. Height can reach only 13 hands. Another thing to include is there high amount of energy.
Black Forest Chesnut
This breed can be either a pony or horse depending the size reached at an adult. The Black Chestnut Pony can reach 14.3-15.2 hands. Characteristics can be elegant head, strong neck, strong body, hard feet, and have some feathering. Colors include sorrel and dark chestnut with shaggy mane and tail.
Uses are harnessing, riding, showing, forestry, agriculture. Personality traits are be willing and gentle.
Still living in the wild this breed is also known as the "lost horses." They can be found in Australia and quickly increase their breed, for they are the second largest populated horse in the wild.
Characteristics include not much bone, weak neck and hindquarters, plain head, quite small, and hard feet. They are also quick and aglie.
The Brumby cannot be ridden nor tamed easily.
Cayuse Indian Pony
Little is known about this breed.
What we do know is that they are barely existing and population is very scarce. Found mainly in California they can stand about 14 hands high.
This rarely beautiful horse can only come in one color, white. They stand 14 hands with a willful but independent personality. Some still roam wild, but very few. In the wild they are able to drink salt water and survive on that. They are slow to mature and can be used in several events such as bull riding and herding cattle.
The Camargue has a plain head, hard feet, and short but strong neck. They have good stamina and can travel for many mile's at a run.
Surprisingly this breed was thought to be extinct then rediscovered. They are hot blooded but can be good child's ponies.
This breed has unusual physical feature's which include a narrow frame, croup is flat, fine bone's, high set tail, weak hind legs, and they stand about 10 to 12 hands.
Uses are driving and jumping.
Cape Mountain Zebra
This breed of Zebra can only reach 12 hands. They are protected in the wild by governments. Zebra's can be used for farming. Though sadly some get killed from destroying crops. The Cape Mountain Zebra has broad stripes and a white body.
This pony started to die off but have slowly started coming back. They are tough, attractive, and have great stamina.
Physical appearance includes neat head, straight profile, short neck, narrow chest, excellent feet, and can be all colors. height can reach 13.2-14.2 hands. Uses can be pleasure riding, trekking, and harnessing.
These short ponies still roam wild in some places. They are very hardy and have great endurance though they have the appearance of being fat. They stand about 12-13 hands.
The Chincoteague Pony can survive harsh environments and have a poor diet. IN the wild they eat things such as grass, grenbriar stems, bay berrie twigs, rose hips, seaweed, and can digest poison ivy. On rare occasions they drink salt water.
In a herd they can contain up to twelve horses. This short fat breed can swim up to ten minutes in the water no stop which proves their strength and endurance.
A Connemara is a very attractive horse with strong quarters, silky mane and tail, long back, broad loins, sloping shoulder, and a wide chest. There colors can be grey, bay, brown, black, chestnut, dun, and palomino.
Connemara are useful for driving, cross country, jumping, packing, farming, and eventing. This breed has the blood lines of Thoroughbred's and Arabian's which makes them have good stamina and be fast runners. They are athletic and very intelligent.
The temperament of a Connemara is very good. They are gentle but bold little ponies. The average height for a Connemara is 13 hands-14.2 hands.
The Criollo Pony, otherwise known as cow pony's, have the blood lines of a Barb. They have incredible power for endurance though having a short body and only standing between 14 to 15 hands.
Criollo have a muscular neck and medium sized head, deep well sprung ribs, are very tough and hardy, and can be very sound. This breed is quick and very intelligent. The Criollo can live i extreme temperatures and is able to live on a small quantity of food.
It is willing and can very large amounts of weight despite it's size. Their joints are strong and their feet are small. The color's are usually dun, palomino, roan, bay, and chestnut.
There used to be races for Criollo breeders where they would ride there ponies for 15 days and cover more than 470 miles, each horse carrying 243 pounds! The horses got no extra food or treatment.
These "small Frisians" have a good, energetic temperament full of courage and bold attitude. They have good stamina and an alert expression.
Their characteristics are neat head, upright neck, small inward ears, short back, strong loins, ample bones, and well shaped feet.
Dale Ponies are usually used in mining, carrying heavy loads, farming, and harnessing because of their fast trot. They stand around 14.2 hands tall and can run long distances.
The Dartmoor Pony was used for several purposes such as packing, mining, herding, jumping, and harnessing. They made excellent riding horses and are great with children.

There isn't much to say about a donkey. They are less hardy than others but can carry heavy loads and have the usual job of packing.
People have started using Donkey's as pets and it has become quite popular.
They are good riding horses but get cold easily. Donkey's have long backs, short necks and legs, strong feet, long alert ears, and calm eyes.
Usual color is a light brown with a black stripe down the middle of their back but there are black, brown, and white Donkey's.
This spirited, fat pony is full of stamina and pride. They are great children ponies and don' have a particular use. Characteristics include a short broad back, a straight profile, small ears, and can reach 12.3 hands high. Colors can be bay, brown, black, gray, roan, and dun.
Close to extinction, this children pony is good at many things. Such as mining, herding, jumping, and endurance.

Some might think that the Shetland Pony is the smallest int he world but actually the Falabella is. They reach no more than 36 inches or 86 centimeters.

This old breed has been breeding for over 2000 years. The only color known is dun with a black stripe going down their mane and back.

Personality is very easy to handle but they can be obstinate. This breed has a poor gallop bur great endurance. They jump well and have an energetic walk.

This little pack pony has several uses in our world such as driving, pleasure riding, hauling, and even herding sheep! They can reach 14.2 hands and have a thick coat.

The Hucul has a willing, docile, and resistant attitude. The only uses are trekking and packing. Characteristics include having a log back, well pointed head, short neck, low withers, compact body, and high set tail. Height can reach as tall as 13 hands high. Colors can be piebald, dun, and skewbald.

This perky and persistent little pony can only stand about 13 hands but is stocky and can carry an adult easily. They have a large head, thick neck, straight shoulder, and smooth brisk movements. Colors include dun, grey, black, and palomino.
Back when mine's were still worked in this breed was a pit pony. Now days they are used in dressage and meat trade. The Icelandic Pony is intelligent, has strength and endurance, but is stubborn.

The Kiso is an unusual looking horse. They stand 13 hands high. Sadly there are only 100 left in the world, and only one of those is a purebred. They will soon be extinct. They can be all colors but have few uses. Those include pleasure riding and harnessing.

The Konik is a hardy and hard working pony. They have a quiet temper and can be used in harnessing and haulage.

This still wild horse only stand 13.1 hands tall and is great for children. They are sturdy and fine, though very hard to fit a saddle to. The Landais can be used for harness racing and a children riding pony. They also have a fast trot
Characteristics include small pointed ears, large intelligent eyes, long neck, sloped shoulders, and short a back. Coat colors could be dark bay, brown, black, and chestnut. They can withstand both heat and colt very well.
The Lokai is a docile, tough, enduring, sure footed, and fast horse. They have prized milk and can be used for racing, packing, trading, transportation, dressage, and jumping.

This rare breed can only reach 13 hands high. They have a compact body, short neck, and a heavy head. Colors include bay, black, and chestnut. Only 100 Masiki's are left on earth sadly. Sorry I don't have much on this breed.
This breed is hardy, strong, has great stamina, and hard working. They can survive in both extreme cold and heat because of their rough coats. They can travel over rough steep terrain or deep snow and ice. This little pony can race for over forty-miles non stop. Their milk is also prized. Uses include herding, packing, and racing.
Physically this breed has round, strong, good feet and can stand between 12.2-14.2 hands high. Colors can be dun, bay, dark brown, and black.
Though small this pony is considered a drought horse. Though not very attractive hey are high spirited, intelligent, and have great stamina. Main uses are pleasure riding and light pulling.

The cheap to keep Pindos Pony is a strong and hardy animal. Though they are endangered. Uses can be pleasure riding, harness, packing, and agriculture.

Pony of the America's
This child's pony has an interesting thing about them. Their hooves are striped. Other characteristics include small quality head, small pointed ears, wide chest, short back, large intelligent eyes, and strong hindquarters. Height can be between 11.3-13.2 hands high. They always have some kind of spot or marking of two or more colors.
Uses are racing, trail and pleasure riding, trekking, jumping, and showing. Their movement is very free and straight which makes it look beautiful.
The Pottock Pony is very small and only reaches 11-14.2 hands. Though they excel in dressage, show jumping, harnessing, packing, and eventing.
They were bred in France and Spain and possibly bred from an Arabian.
A Pottock Pony is dipped between the eyes and can be any color but grey. They are hardy but have some defects from breeding.
They have strong sound hooves and their legs are generally light and lack bone. Quarters are not long and slope down from the croup but their tail is carried high. They have a straight back and finally overloaded shoulders. Colors can be part, bay, and brown.
This breed was one of the first horses ever to exist. They still do but barely. This old breed survived the ice age which proves their hardiness and adaptation to new places. Now The Przewalski's horse is found in zoo's and a few in the wild. The are untamed horses and have a fierce personality.
On their back you will find a black stripe called an eel stripe. They can be between 12-14.2 hands high. Characteristics include long heavy head, little or no forelock, straight profile, short upright mane, and have big, fat, hard feet. Colors are always dun though a few have zebra stripes.
The Quagga is a type of zebra and used to live in South Africa. Sadly they are now extinct because of heavy hunting. They came close to breeding again but we can't get the stripes in front instead of behind. Quagga's have stripes only in the front. The picture below shows this. Height can reach 12 hands.
Sable Island Pony
The small sable island Pony can do all types of work and is hardy, wiry, and tough. They can also do light pulling, riding, under saddle, and harnessing.
Characteristics include short back, big ears, straight profile, and large head. Colors can be chestnut, brown, black, and grey.
The fast and elegant Sandalwood is a very willing horse. Though only 13.1 hands tall they participate in racing and being a children riding pony.
Characteristics include thin legs, high set tail, long straight back, short neck, and a small head. They can be any color and is very attractive breed.
Being the smallest breed in the world has some advantages and some not. Sadly this small horse is used a lot for meat. they were used as pit ponies and carried seaweed, animal feed, and fur. Now they are used as pets for children, harnessing, and circus attractions. The Shetland Pony also jumps well.
They are hardy and have a quick action. Also being willing and gentle with children.
Characteristics include small neat ears, strong short legs, and hard feet. Any color is acceptable. Their top height is 40 inches. Interestingly enough listen to this...a Shetland Pony is the one of the smallest horse in the world but, they are as strong as a Clydesdale.
This extremely short pony is a very rare. So rare that only 140 are left on earth's surface! They have something called a toad eye. Uses can be farming, packing, and agriculture. They have short legs, short back, narrow body, straight shoulders, small neat head, and small feet. Colors include bay or dun. Size is between 9.1-9.11 hands.
The Sorraia Pony is excellent for pleasure riding and harness racing though they only reach 14 hands high. Other characteristics include a convey head, black tipped ears, strong neck, sloping croup, and low set tail. Colors can be dun, grullo, gray dun, and they always have a black mane and tail.
This unique breed was named after an island and are considered Chinese horses.
Sumba's are very strong, have good hooves, great endurance, flat withers, string neck, heavy head, and have short bodies. They can come in any color and stand around 13 hands.
This breed is usually used for packing, riding and dance competitions because of their natural ability to move to rhythm.
They have a willing temperament and are fast and very athletic along with being agile and quick.
This prehistoric animal is a protected species at the moment and are very rare. They are a working pony and only found in the wild. The Tarpan is hardy and can survive in extreme weather.

Though the Viatka stands 14.2 hands it is considered a pony breed. They have a thick winter coat and have many tasks. Some are farming, pulling carts, and pleasure riding. Colors include bay and chestnut roan. They are also bulky and have a short neck, longer back and short legs.
The Welsh Pony has a tough, fiery, spirited, and hardy nature. They are very powerful, intelligent, and make both good driving horses and riding horses, one of the best actually. other uses are jumping, showing, and harnessing. They are also very sure footed. This pony breed has a fast and high stepping trot which helps in driving and harnessing competitions.

The Yakut Pony's name came from Siberia. They can survive in harsh climates and produce milk that people drink. Their use is transportation and riding.

Obviously this is a mix between a female donkey and a stallion zebra. The Zedonk is striped like a zebra but the color of a donkey, there is always a stripe down the middle of their back as well. They are also called a Zeasses. They are hard to train, quick, have a short back, and small hooves.
Also called a Zihund this rare breed has only a few horse left of its kind. They originally came from the Tarpan and survive in bitter cold area's. uses are riding and farm work.
